Water lilies are my favorite water garden flower. These hardy lilies open their buds each morning at sunrise and close each afternoon as the sun sets.

This painting incorporates three stages of lily bloom development. The emerging bud, the partially opened bloom and a fully bloomed lily. I usually have a lily in one of these stages during the summer months.

The main colors used in this painting are red, white, sap green, and ultramarine blue.
