White Water Lilies

Art: White Water Lilies by Artist Rita C. Ford
While sitting on the edge of my water pond, I get a very different view of the lilies than when I see them from a distance. As I look down I can see the lily pads slightly moving, almost trembling, in the normally peaceful water. After a few moments out from under one of the lily pads comes a large goldfish that had been nibbling on the algae or chasing some water bug for his supper. This reminds me that the eco-system in this little pond world is fine and working. This top-side view of the lilies is the setting of the painting.

The lily blossoms with bright yellow stamens are painted with pallet knife and are very textured, while the lily pads, although very bright, are flat against the water. From this point of view you can see the bright green stems of the lilies that provide much needed shelter for the smaller fish and algae to eat.

The primary colors used in this palette are:
sap green
cadmium yellow
ultramarine blue

The painting is part of the Water Garden Series.
