This painting was done using Sennelier Pastel and Mi-Teintes. I painted this self-portrait because I had to come up with subject matter for a demonstration rather quickly since I only had just learned the day before that I needed to do a demonstration for a gallery where my work is shown. People say to paint what you know, so I grabbed a picture of myself that I had already drawn, and went the next day to perform the demonstration.
I started by first transferring the drawing and then outlining it with a medium-value pastel. Then, I continued by blocking in the values starting with the darkest values, then building up color to the lighter values until finally the lightest values are reached.
