Art: The Butterfly Room by Artist Dianne Curtis
"What happens in the Butterfly room stays in the butterfly room," which is why this piece is so secretive. I was thinking about the 60s when the paranormal became a popular entertainment for the upper class. There were many incidents where people dabbled in the supernatural or calling of spirits and wound up paying the consequences. Perhaps some of that energy is still floating around in the room the next day? Our fascination with the paranormal goes back to the beginning of civilization. It is part of our human condition to want to know the future or perhaps speak to a deceased relative and we've created many sacred places and tools for this obsession. This piece is based on the mysteries surrounding a paranormal room, the seances that take place and the intellects who show up here out of curiousity. The crystal ball is only one element in the Butterfly room, a room where your entire energy is changed when you walk into it, therefore, the entire room is a tool for paranormal work. This environment makes you stop and wonder, "What took place here last night?" No one can say what goes on in the butterfly room because..."what happens in the butterfly room, STAYS in the butterfly room," but you can bet in this meeting room, there's always a surprise! About the watercolor... There is intricate work in the patterns on all the tapestry done in a metallic golden bronze which compliments the composition. The crystal ball is intended to be the focal point which leads your eye to the window, where there is a second focal point: the stained glass butterfly, a creature known for change. When you walk into the butterfly room, you feel a sense of change, wonderment and mystery.
