A macro image of part of a Rhododendron flower cluster, the state flower of Georgia, Washington and West Virginia.
It is a genus of flowering plants in the family Ericaceae, with over a 1000 species and includes the plants known as azaleas as well.
Elaborated from a digital photo of a variegated pink rhododendron with a pale apricot center, it is my favorite rhodi of all in my garden because of it's unique color and beauty.
The image was digitally painted in Studio Artist on different layers with separate processes for each layer and tweaked in Photoshop for intentional color enhancement and effects. I particularly like the lace-like quality on the petals, fully appreciated in enlarged view. The original photo is also included for comparison.
