This version of the Kansas state flower was my first commissioned piece, and was done for my landscaper as a gift to his wife. Although initially I was a bit unnerved with the pressure to create a finished piece that would please them and meet their expectations, I soon found myself absorbed in the magic and warmth of the various yellows, and the limitless blues of the sky in the background. I tried to create a dreamy quality and added a great deal of texture to the flower's center in the foreground to capture the feeling of being inside the sunflower. I think I accomplished these goals.
