Is he laughing at me?
This Great Blue Heron was just lounging under a house on Lake Union when I bumped into him. We spent the whole morning together and I was able to capture him feeding on four different fish. !
When I go out to photograph I don't choose my subjects, they pick me. It is my job to document what presents itself to me. This bird showed up while I was attempting to do some nautical work in an Urban Setting.
Generally, I choose an area to cover when I shoot, trying to be prepared for what animals I know are likely to be encountered. In this case that meant boats and stuff like that, but surprise!
Then the breathing and the seeing begins. Seeing a good image takes practice and awareness. The open mind gets you started and then the subject takes you to another place, the Art has a mind of it's own and wisks you away.
This image was chosen for this show because it represents the ultimate in wild birds.
Made on film with a 35mm Minolta Camera and an 800mm lens.
Thank you for providing the eyes to view this piece!
Enjoy!
