I captured this image at the Milwaukee Zoo as I was getting ready to exit the gates. There were several pink flamingos on the lawn, quietly moving about the grassy entrance, oblivious to their own beauty. I didn't like the typical image of a pink flamingo on the sun-drenched, manicured lawn - especially with people in the background. So I opened this up in Photoshop and gave this wild bird a whole new life. Here he is gracefully, and freely, moving about in the wild pink yonder. A blazing sun shines down on him, illuminating his feathers. He is surrounded by a lush pink horizon and an unknown destination. He is himself now - no longer held captive, or the object of spectators' glances.
The image was taken with a vintage Minolta CLE with Rangefinder lens, 100 speed film, then cropped and digitally enhanced in Photoshop. I've included the original photo, which was actually overexposed and not very appealing to the eye.
