This piece was completed after I read the biography of Frida Kahlo. I have always loved both Frida and Diego Rivera. I saw Rivera's murals in the National Palace in Mexico City when I was 14 years old and it made a profound impression on me. I have long been facinated with the artist's of that time. I love the style, color, symbolism, and impressionistic representation. This particular piece is my tribute to a woman who triumphs over many issues related to women of our time and is a conquering heroine who has overcome many things to be happy and fulfilled in an image of summer, suntan, salad, sunflowers, sunglasses, silver, sweetpeas-all "S's" of summer. I dedicate this piece to Frida Kahlo and to my daughter Shelli.
