This piece was sparked from the work of Gustav Klimt. I have looked at his work for years now, but one night i was deeply effected creatively to create this maiden to mother piece. That was inspired at first by "The Kiss"(well, if you figure that from the kiss comes the birth of a baby eventually) I liked the quilt that drapes over the lover's shoulders and wanted to also use that element. I then examined pictures of the Life Tree (from the Stocletfrieze) with the swirls in the back ground. The piece still did not feel finished to me, so when I went back to the web and found "the Dancer" it was then I added the birds and flowers. Although I have nver actually seen any of his works in person, i noticed the use of gold and wanted something more than just gold interference paint, so I decided on using the glass beads to decorate the choker. I have never consciously gone out to paint something like another's work, so when the desire to paint this came about it was a lot of fun. It was also my first attempt at doing a face in acrylics.
