Art: Mandala 3 by Artist Michelle Oravitz
I have always been intrigued by mandalas and have read a lot about their meaning through out history. They are considered very healing and are seen to be drawn by children - many believe since they are like rituals strengthening one's identity. Mandalas are also windows to a person's psyche. They can be interprated through colors, numbers and shapes. This mandala specifically was interesting to paint. It was a commission by a customer and was painted at a time when I was thinking of another child. If one looks closely (as my husband pointed out) they can see many signs of fertility. Such examples are flowering symbols, dna, and ofcourse a few ones that look like sperm! (my husband's observation! lol) I find mandalas very healing and fun to paint. Unlike my other paintings, they reflect more directly my state of mind at the time.
