Last summer my husband and I visited Acadia National Park in Maine. We spent a rainy afternoon exploring and photographing The Wild Gardens of Acadia. These pitcher plants were a highlight of the Bog Garden, and I have been thinking about drawing or painting them from the moment I saw their undulating curves and enticing, almost human lips.
It's been a while since I've worked on a more realistic piece, and when I saw the prospectus, I thought it would be a good opportunity to get out the watercolors. In addition to watercolor, I also used colored pencil to enhance the shadows and accentuate the plant in the foreground which allows us to peer within its pitcher.
