"This painting is based on a still photograph taken on 35mm film and processed in black and white. I came across it recently and realized it might make an interesting painting. Then just at the finish of the painting, I had the idea to put one last leaf on the Oak tree and thus the name of the painting. The leaf represents the chill of Winter upon us and the last leaf ready to come off the tree at any time.
If you look closely on the ground you can see a bird that I often use in my landscapes as a sign representing the freedom in painting that I so enjoy. The colors are to quite neutral even though Metallic Gold and Copper, slightly representative of the art in the late sixties and the seventies. As often with art, great ideas or styles seem to recycle similar to the way they do in design trends. So the concept of the tree is not my own idea as much as this is my 'take' on it with my interpretation including the mighty Texas Oak on a windy prairie based on my original photograph as inspiration".
