Full Moon on a Southwest Desert Night

Art: Full Moon on a Southwest Desert Night by Artist Lar Shackelford
The full moon really shines down upon the Southwest desert. It reflects upon the sands as if they were tiny beads of glass. Mountains and buttes in the background on this painting highlight the various landscapes found in the desert. The colors in this painting are reflective of a rich warm environment yet we can experience some really cold and chilly nights. Our Winter temperature ranges can vary a great deal for as soon as the Sun goes down where I live the thermometer drops.

Whether you like the feeling of specifically Native American terrain or just enjoy the desert, I tried to create an ageless, timeless appeal. It was especially fun to work with as there is a great deal of texture in it which probably helps it's Abstract Expressionist appearance. I put stars in the night sky and they shine down on the land to sprinkle good cheer to the beauty that abounds in the desert Southwest of New Mexico, West Texas, Nevada, Utah, and Arizona.
