This week's theme: New Year's Cheers

The end of one calendar year and the start of a new one. We mark this by gathering together for celebrations both large and small. We raise our glass to the year that was and toast the possibilities of the year to come.

Art: re: American Gothic by Artist Laura Shuran Meseroll
A brilliant visit to America's past--my interpretation of American Gothic. This is a mixed media collage on a very large vintage charcoal drawing. The frame is original (glass is heavy!) although the paint is quite contemporary and heavily glittered to a very nice effect. The various elements that have been combined to create this outstanding work of American Folk Art include much handpainting with painterly brushwork, various vintage bits of ephemera, netty lacroix's paper, vintage aluminum garland, old French tin letters, gobs of old glass German glitter, a handmade papier mache lapel pin, and a hand-dyed silk ribbon by hannah silk. The faces are freshly hand tinted with soft pastel--and they will smudge--this must be kept under glass and has been photographed under glass so there is a bit of glare but the colors are very accurate. This original frame is a just great!--very very nice--and chippy! Please feel free to email any questions or if you would like a more detailed image of any area in particular
