Art: Sativus Blue SOLD by Artist Mary J Sheridan
This piece is titled "SATIVUS BLUE". The sativus crocus is harvested for its saffron, the red long tenticles which reach out. This aspect of the crocus really caught my attention, I never knew saffron came from such a little flower. I continue to be challenged working in this format and love the edge it gives to my style. I never use pencil and never plan my paintings, they are in the moment and very spontaneous. It is for me a great release of energy and very passionate, the colors I use are very much a reflection of my mood at the time. It is a wonderful feeling of freedom and oftentimes, as with this piece, I will work through the night so I do not lose the connection I have with the pastel.
