Sunflower Ladybug Vignette

- by Pamela K Wilhelm

This week's theme: Helianthus

They are named for the sun. Their symmetry is based on Fibonacci numbers. They are native to the Americas, but have traveled widely and have captured the eyes and imagination of people all over the world.

There is a beautiful story about the musk deer that prompted me to paint this deer. It goes like this.... The musk deer became aware of an exquisite scent which stirred him to the depths of his soul. Now, a powerful longing arose within his heart making him determined to find the source of the scent. He searched everywhere desperately but with no discovery. Alas, after many years, he fell from a cliff one day and as his life came to its end, he realized that the sought after scent came from his own navel. He then experienced supreme peace. His journey was over. This also is a story about a seeker of God....life long searching and sacrificing, finally discovering that true peace, God is within himself.
