"Someday I'm gonna be just like him." You can almost hear this young man thinking, as he watches his fathers intricate fingering on the long slender neck of the guitar. "Someday I'm gonna be just like him." You can't help but smile. He wears the same shirt, the same hat, the same slacks, and his young fingers are already limber enough to play simple chords as a backdrop to his dad's more intricate guitar work. This father must be proud, and when he noticed I was watching them play he looked up for just a brief moment and I could even see it in his eyes.
It happens like that of course, whether you know it or not. Somewhere in your life there is a young set of eyes watching you, learning from you. "I'm gonna be just like you," they are thinking, whether you, or they, even know it. What reflection of yourself will you see? Will it be like this neatly dressed young man sitting straight and proud trying to discipline his small fingers to make beautiful music, strong and confident like his father? Or maybe a honest hard worker, a caring husband, a dutiful father? Or maybe something less, something you're not so proud of.
That young set of eyes won't make the distinction. Good or bad, in some way they're gonna be "just like you." What reflection of yourself will you see when you look?
It's really up to you.
