"Lichens"

- by Deidre Kennedy

This week's theme: And Two Girls In Kimonos

This week’s EBSQ Art of the Day theme focuses on art that features pinks and purples. Because we like things with a little bit of a twist, we have included a painting of two girls in kimonos that features strong reds.

Art: Lichens by Artist Deidre Kennedy
Lichens are more than fungi/mosses. They are "mini-ecosystems, consisting of at least two organisms!", as quoted in LICHENS, William Purvis. The book is fascinating. Images contained within the book inspired this piece. Some of the images and colours are reminiscent of colours witin Yellowstone Park.

I love to work with texture, often using sand, embroidery, and items from nature. "Lichens" is textured with sand, reflective of the texture of the minni-ecosystems themselves.

This painting is from my seasonal body of work sold in Boston, Massachusetts, as I seek new gallery representation. I welcome commissions and frequently paint in a much larger format. All questions and comments are appreciated: luckflies@hotmail.com. Thank you for viewing my work.
