I decided to deal directly with breast cancer as my subject. My mother and I combined have had fibroid tumors, cysts, and polyps. I know that shiver down the spine when the doctor tells you that a spot was found on your mammogram. We were fortunate and the results were not serious but a friend of mine wasn't so lucky - she had to undergo a radical mastectomy. She is a warm, generous, and gifted woman of great courage and I dedicate this artwork to her. I tried to convey a variety of mixed emotions in this work: vulnerablity, fear, strength, hope, femininity, fragility, and courage. This was created by cutting up pieces of old photographs, layers of paint, and several sheets of scrapbook paper - all assembled digitally.
