Art: Leading a Parade by Artist Stephanie Dyke
This is my second miniature art quilt. I wanted to make an abstract composition using the log cabin technique and also utilize a favorite quote.

The quilt started with random machine pieced scraps of fabric. The quote was stamped on strips of rug binding and hand embroidered to the surface of the quilt.

The piece was embellished with additional embroidery, felt, sequins and found objects (numbers cut from bingo cards). Finally it was hand quilted with contrasting thread, bound and signed.

The quote is: "Always smile even if they are chasing you out of town, 'cuz those who see you coming will think you're leading a parade."

The story behind the quote goes back to my "day job". I am a training consultant for a big player in the hospitality industry. I get to meet all kinds of people, most of whom have super personalities and an incredible sense of humor. One of the teambuilding games requires the trainees to match their fellow participants up with random trival information. In this case, the quote was the motto of a bartender from Charlottesville, VA. It so summed up my current philosophy on life that I have appropriated it for my own!
