This design shows a male and female pied hornbill perched together on a branch. These wonderful birds are frequent visitors to many of the gardens here and I've had many opportunities to photograph and observe them. When they pair up they stay together, and there seems to be an elaborate courtship between them, often involving the male hornbill offering little bits of food to the female. This design is hand appliquéd using 100% cotton batik fabrics on a hand painted background.
