Art: Pit Fire Ceramic Vase by Artist Susan Frank
Clay is a wonderful medium. It gives, both emotionally and physically. This vase was constructed with one of the oldest methods humans have for clay work, the coil method. It produces a very handmade quality, as the work does not have the symmetric perfection that a wheel made piece may display. The pit fire, too, is ancient and simple way of completing the work. The pit fire is always entering into the unknown; will my work emerge enhanced, or will it blow up? I found it a very satisfying process.
