I did this piece specifically for the show when I first read about it. It really fired my imagination as my mother had told me the story when I was a child along with the fairy tales she told me. Scheherazade was to be put to death unless she was able to captivate the king, her husband, long enough to make him forget his threat. Each night for 1001 of them she wove another tale, breaking off when it got to its crisis point and pleading for sleep before she told the ending on the following night. What a remarkable and clever woman -- a true survivor. Here you see her, and her words, and she is gesticulating and saying, "it truly was this big." I wonder which of her stories she was referring to? I'm not sure where all that acid yellow color is coming from. It is not on the original. It could be reflection caused by the scanner on the gold metallic ink I used to outline the characters and to write the scripts.
