The objects in this photograph are part of a large collection that I have gradually accumulated from second-hand stores and yard sales at local churches.
the worn and abandoned appearance of old religious items can be interpreted in a variety of ways; I am fascinated by the many different moods and ideas the same objects can evoke, depending on presentation.
In this case, the age and wear of the items implies to me that these objects have been "cast off" because they are no longer needed by their previous owners--these objects were used heavily by "nameless saints", ordinary pious people who have long since left this life with humble hope of finding a better one.
The worn prayer books published before the first world war, frayed scapulas and ancient rosaries are the rungs on a particular ladder to heaven, long since climbed.
