I was excited about ripping off one of Amanda Makepeace's tree frogs. I have been doing a series of "Toad Babies," but mine have been with a more human face and were wearing more of a toad costume. Doing a rip of Amanda's piece has made me want to explore this new style a little bit more and has taken me in a whole new direction to try on my toad babies.
The one I chose to rip was "A Little Help Please." It kind of tickled my funny bone. I used the same similar pose as her's but with a completely different thought. This little toad baby is snapping it's fingers and sucking on that pacifier. I wanted to keep with the humor I found in her painting but in my own surreal, humorous sort of way.
I love the bright greens and reds. There is something about tree frogs whether they are photographed, painted or drawn that just says "Nature's quirky, little creatures." Colored pencil, ink and marker on bristol.
