Ohio's official wildflower is the large white trillium. I actually have the little red variety and the yellow variety growing in the woods behind my house in the spring. They are about 2 inched wide The large white ones, however, can grow to 6 or 7 inches wide. Since I now live in Ohio, I decided to create a painting based upon Ohio's state wildflower for the Jan. 09 EBSQ Flower of the Month Show. I started out with a pretty anatomically correct drawing of the flower, and you can still see some of it in the lower left corner. As I started painting, I began to envision the petals swimming across the canvas. That's how I ended up with this painting. No drugs were abused in the creation of this painting -- haha-- just an active imagination.
