Cyclamens seem so very elegant and delicate. I used Winsor & Newton transparent watercolors and choose the colors that are the most permanent. I chose Arhces 300# hot press paper as the hot press surface allows for a more delicate interpretation of flowers in particular and I like to be able to hold my paper as I paint and the 300# is nice and firm. Getting as physical as possible with my watercolors brings me the most joy as I paint.
This piece has at least three layers of transparent watercolor which give it great depth. Unfortunately it's difficult to capture on camera. I also love to allow watercolors to do what they do naturally, like create blooms, granulate, blend softly, etc. Those are some of the qualities that can make it most challenging, but also very rewarding.
I used some Cyclamens that are in a pot on my balcony for reference, then I stopperd looking at them and drew the flowers from memory. This method allows to put more of my imagination into my creation. I use a HB pencil for my drawing and erase a lot of it once the painting is done. Of course this depends on how much the pencil lines add to the overall effect.
Creating is a very spiritual activity for me. It uplifts my soul and I hope that those who view or purchase my art receive that gift as well.
