Many species belong to the Amaryllidaceae family including the Agapanthus aka Lily of the Nile or African Lily. The Agapanthus derives its name from the Greek words for "love" and "flower". It is a beautiful and stately flower growing on long stems up to three or more feet in my Mediterranean garden with blooms as much as eight to ten inches across.

Agreement as to its family has been controversial. Recently it has been classified as sister to a clade consisting of subfamilies Allioideae and Amaryllidoideae of the family Amaryllidaceae and transferred it to that family. Previously the genus Agapanthus has also been included in the Alliaceae (e.g. in the Dahlgren system) or the Liliaceae (e.g. in the Cronquist system, which unlike most classification systems included both Alliaceae and Amaryllidaceae in a broadly defined Liliaceae).

Based on that and more which Wikipedia has to offer, I'm not sure that it should be included in this show, but it's here for whatever it's worth.

The original digital photo was worked on in Studio Artist, where various effects were rendered using the Paint, Vectorizer and MSG (modular synthesized graphics) operation modes of SA on three layers which were composited in different ways.
