Art: Melanthe by Artist The Lone Beader

This is Melanthe. Her name originates from classic Greek mythology and it means "Dark Flower". Melanthe was a servant to Penelope. This is my artistic interpretation of the meaning of her name.

This piece is bead-embroidered and it features a polymer clay face which was made by Stacy Taylor. The face measures approx. 1 3/4" long. The petals are black, grey, copper, and a dark teal- blue color. I used a fringe technique around the face, and improvisational bead embroidery on one edge of each of the petals to add dimension. This piece is backed with Ultrasuede, and there is a silver ring attached to the back for hanging.

This piece would be perfect hanging in a foyer, hallway, or other small space.
