Art: Pandora's Book by Artist Diane G. Casey
This piece is titled "Pandora's Book".... We all know the story of how Pandora unleashed all the evils of the world from her proverbial box, but did you know that all the words in her book also made a great escape? Yes, it's true; she opened the book (just like the box), and freed all the words into the unsuspecting world at large, and life was never the same for anyone, ever again! That darn Pandora girl was SUCH a little hyperactive hellion as a kid! Always getting into mischief and pulling shenanigans! She simply couldn't keep ANYTHING CLOSED!! What WAS her problem? But I digress.... I am entering this piece into the: "Alphabet: Typography Incorporated into Art" show, because I feel it illustrates what happens when we free words from the printed page, (or at least when Pandora did!) and when they become part of something other than purely verbal communication. It explores how letters and words can be incorporated into art. The words I chose to use here, all have a common theme of "escaping" from the book; (Escape, freedom, liberate, etc.) The textbooks are also humorously titled, and note the authors' names for fun!
