Ek Chuah, the Mayan god of war, was a dark and fightening figure. Death was his constant companion. However, he also had a protective side to him. He was a friend of merchants, especially those traveling from one village to another. He would guide them through jungles and hillsides and see to it that they would not get lost.
This is one of a series of portraits of Mayan deities.
