This is one of my two remaining sculptures honoring breast cancer survivors and victims. I create a number of these in October each year, breast cancer awareness month. I give them this name; "I Shall Be An Amazon Now" from the myth of the amazon women who had one breast removed so they could hold their bows more easily. Women with breast cancer have a fight for survival as well as these might women of our stories.
The head, hands and feet have been sculpted from polymer clay. The fabric body is built on a wire armature and stuffed with polymer fill. I used rich velvets and upholstery fabric for her clothing and found bits of jewelry and beads for embellishment. I made a rough line of stitching to show the loss of her breast. There is a waxed linen thread on the back so she can be hung on the wall, as I have demonstrated here.
Original one of a kind sculpture. Signed on back of head. Comes with Certificate of Authenticity from EBSQart.
