Artist's Profile

I have been a professional artist for many years and a "budding artist" since birth almost. My work has been through many phases over the years and something that I had to either fit in or abandon through different stages of my life, school, work and then raising two children as a single parent. My job as a computer operator was eliminated in 1994 and I took that as the impetus to finally do something meaningful with my talent.

I took a workshop in botanical illustration, a pottery class, a silver jewelry class and also took a course at Emily Carr Institute of Art and Design.

I started to make cards with original watercolor images of flowers, fruit and vegetables and moved into creating those images onto functional art pieces such as garden gloves, tote bags and flower pots. I sold these at local art fairs and markets.

In 1996, at 50, I became a grandmother for the first time and started to look at that role with new eyes. I wasn't a "traditional" grandmother and most of my peers were not either. The image of the older woman was changing as we "baby boomers" have been making our mark since the 1960's. I began to make figurative sculptures with two themes; "don't they know I am only 15 on the inside?" and "Moonchild is a grandma now".
