I know we have all marvelled at dragonflies for as long as we can remember. These capricious insects come in a myriad of colours, all amazing! Watching them perform their aerial acrobatics is spell binding and the joy of having one land close by long enough to enjoy its beauty is an absolute thrill. On this day I was treated to a lengthy visit by this gorgeous ‘dragon’ and blessed with one amazing photograph before it went on its way. Order Odonata, Infraorder Anisoptera. The dragonfly may light, but is unable to walk. Although small, the dragonfly is a predator. They prey on mosquitoes, flies, bees, ants and butterflies. In fact they are sometimes referred to as Mosquito Hawks. Their skill and agility in flight is nothing short of amazing, they can fly at speeds up to 30 miles an hour and can spot movement up to 40 feet away!
