My entry for the June 2015's Nibblefest Art Contest (Theme: "Surrealism") features a portrait painted in tribute to a certain famed Surrealist. I selected my subject matter knowing he would work also well for EBSQ's June exhibit, "Portrait of the Artist".
Dali (1904-1989) was known nearly as much for his outlandish hijinks (his mustache even had its own book!) as for his unique artwork. His grandiose antics did often divide people -- even today folks seem to either really love him....or really not. He never did seem overly concerned about his critics however, continuing to do his own thing throughout his life. My portrait was painted as a little affectionate nod to his eccentricity and attention-getting style....
The following was my NFAC entry statement...:

My entry for this month's
Nibblefest Art Contest (NFAC), the
theme for June being 'SURREALISM',
features a portrait painted in tribute to a certain late, great
painter of the Surrealist genre. Some may recall how Salvador Dali
often liked to creatively groom his long, handlebar mustache into ever more
interesting silhouettes -- I myself just had fun imagining what it might have
been like to take that particular personal predilection of his to the
next level.....
(Note this piece is also entered into the June 2015 "Portrait of the Artist" EBSQ online exhibit).
