Art: Frida.jpg by Artist Mark Satchwill
A portrait of the artist Frida Kahlo painted for the EBSQ Frida show this month.

Frida Kahlo was a Mexican painter (1907 - 54). She is best known for her self portraits. After an accident when she was 18, her life was plagued by illness and suffering due to spinal problems and the after-effects of the accident, and her paintings are often brutally honest.

My image is based on a photo of Frida taken by Nikolas Muray. The bloody thorns and leaves were symbols that Frida used in her own work, representing pain and suffering and her love of the Mexican flora and fauna.
