Art: Adam Bites The Apple by Artist Mark Satchwill
A painting of Adam in the Garden of Eden about to take a chunk out of the apple that Eve has given him, the fruit of the Tree of Knowledge. According to the Book of Genesis, God created the the universe and everything in it in seven days. On the sixth day he created Adam, a man, in his own image. Adam lived in Eden, a paradise where everything he needed and could want was provided for him. He was told he could eat from any tree except the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil, because he would die if he ate that trees fruit.. God then decided Adam should have some company and created all the beasts and Adam named them. The while Adam slept God took one of his ribs and created Eve. Eve was later tempted by the serpent to pick the fruit from the forbidden tree and taste it and share it with Adam. They did not die but instead their eyes were opened and innocence lost. They hid from God and covered their nakedness. God asked Adam if he had eaten the fruit and he said that Eve had told him to. God expelled them from Paradise, their immortality lost, so then Adam had to work for food and Eve had to bear children and so were born guilt and shame, blame and suffering. So I depicted the moment when all was lost - the moment Adam bites into the fruit.
