The soft glow of an evening sky, over hills topped with forests of Douglas fir... This scene lies on the western side of my house. When I step out my back door and look to the top of the ridge, this is what I see. I paint outside quite a bit, but this is the first time I have painted the actual scenery around me. It was suggested for this show that we provide a photo of our subject matter, but I wish to decline. Because I work from reference photos a lot, for other types of paintings, well, somehow snapping a photo for this work ruins the "romance" of it being "plein air".
