Scintillating Sapphire, Citrine & Emeralds (Wallgems triptych)

This is a matching 3 piece set of textured acrlylic paintings that I like to refer to as "Wallgems" (gems for your walls). The idea here was to express or represent in an abstract way, the microscopic play of light in sparkling jewels. I love the way jewels catch your eye (and the light), but usually jewels are tiny and my thought here is that it would be stunning to have such a view of the captured and reflected light presented on canvas in such an enlarged format to cover your walls so you could enjoy the scintillating effect of jewels any time.

I used texture paste to bring out the highlights and lowlights of each color, and also to give the appearance of "sparkling' light being reflected in the jewels. The blue piece represents "Sapphire", the Yellow-gold piece is "Citrine (yellow topaz), and the green is of course "Emeralds".

First is Sapphire - Gem of Sincerity and Trust: Sapphire, also known as the “Gem of Heavens” for its velvety blue color, is the birthstone of September. Some have used Sapphires as talismans for protection, to ward off diseases, and to bring peace, happiness, and intelligence. Now known as the stone of serenity, Sapphire helps one to meditate by providing mental calming.

Sapphire’s blue is associated with such emotions as kindness, harmony, and fidelity.

Citrine - Gem of Optimism and Renewal (yellow topaz):

Citrine, the warm and sensuous color of the sunset, is the birthstone for the month of November. Because its color ranges from yellow, to gold to orange brown, Citrine is derived from the French word “citron”, meaning lemon. Citrine is considered a harmonious, optimistic, and cheerful stone with the ability to brighten up our hearts’ darkest places. It stimulates communication and supplies its owner with energy that it reflects from the yellow rays of the sun.

Also called the “Merchant’s Stone”, Citrine is said to bring good luck and to ensure prosperity and accumulation of wealth. It is no wonder that some actually place a Citrine into their cash register, hoping for increased cash flows!

Finally, the Emerald, Gem of Love and Life: Emerald, a gem of beautiful, deep green color is associated with Thursday and is the birthstone of May. Symbolizing the eternally returning spring, this gemstone celebrates all of life and living.

It was believed that wearing an Emerald would improve one’s memory and intelligence, enabling one to think clearly about the past, present, and future. Emeralds are considered the “gem of good luck” and the “gem that improves one’s well-being”.

Each piece is 18x24x1.5" (deep canvas), for total dimensions of 54x24x1.5" and the sides are painted black, so there's no need for framing; they are ready to hang.

I have signed each piece on the back, and they are varnished for protection and enhancement of color.
