Cherry Bomb

Art: Cherry Bomb by Artist Amy J.
This piece is a collaborative work between myself and Elly Peters of Ellyloo Creations. It came about as one of those whimsical ideas we had while talking about her extra-large lampwork beads, whether she'd ever made a red one and how much fun it could be to make a cherry out of one, or at least try to. She actually made the bead, actually sent it to me and I wasn't about to shirk the challenge, so I crafted the stem of .999 fine silver with a fine silver bead cap as the base, fine silver wire at the very top of the bead to keep it from coming off the "stem" and more silver wire at the very end of the "stem" to make the bit of the stem that attaches to the tree more authentic. The whole thing was then dunked in a Liver of Sulfur bath to darken the stem to the right color. This is probably my favorite piece ever, because it came out exactly as we envisioned it. I keep it on my desk as a model for all the future cherries to be made with Elly's wonderful red beads!
