"Melancholia" is one example of my unique "Crayola scratchboard" technique. It is the second in a series of abstract nudes that have been well received thus far.(I have a gallery showing in Newburyport, MA because of these unique pieces.) My mother introduced me to drip candles when I was about 13. Ever since I have been fascinated by the pure and undilluted pigments wax can offer. I have found through experimentation that Crayola crayons offer the most vibrant colors when melted (go figure...)The homemade scratchboard utilizes the bare glass of a ready made frame and a coat of acrylic paint. The wax is applied after the scratched surfaces are exposed and I am satisfied with the "stencil". One result is offered here with "Melancholia". It is the bare essentials of figure representation highlighted by the different hues of the wax. The resulting product is something no painting can offer.
