A Young Bespeckled John Lennon

- by Kristin Turberville

This week's theme: Pop Art

pop art or Pop Art
n.

A form of art that depicts objects or scenes from everyday life and employs techniques of commercial art and popular illustration.

In the mid-20th century, artists began to explore the consumer culture. They found their inspiration in the images of popular culture. Their use of things such as products, advertisements, comic strips and celebrities resulted in the blurring of the line between commercial and fine art.

Art: A Young Bespeckled John Lennon by Artist Kristin Turberville
I originally did this painting because I liked the simplicity of the design. I love photos of John in his glasses, so that, in addition to the little dots in the background, helped me to enjoy this piece.

This painting has a very special place in my heart because it is the reason that I got to go to a Paul McCartney concert in 2002. While on display at the fair, someone saw it, got my contact information, and called me in order to buy it. He then offered me his extra ticket to the concert that was that weeked. Roger and I are now good Beatle buddies.

Awards/Recognitions: This painting won an Honorable Mention ribbon at the 2002 Bloomsburg, PA Fair. It also received a ribbon for participation in the Amateur category for the 2002 Chicago Beatlefest Art Contest.
