After the Storm

- by Nancy Easterlin

This week's theme: Opposites Attract: Yellows & Purples

This is a combination a lot of people avoid, including artists. More difficult to pull of than other combinations, it can be quite tricky. Finding that perfect shade of yellow to go against that perfect shade of a purple. These two colors seem to argue more than others, but when they find their balance, nothing can be more beautiful.

Art: After the Storm by Artist Nancy Easterlin
The inspiration for this painting came from the Sawtooth Mountains and Lake Superior, Minnesota. The richness of the colors, the reflection of the light on the water, and the action of this mysterious weather all seem to contradict the over all feeling of peace the painting has. I love to paint with vivid colors because I enjoy making the painting just as much about color as it is about the subject. "After the Storm" was painted with a pallet knife to insure a textured appearance and a light blending of colors.
