Art of the Day: Thursday April 29, 2010

Nautilus (Available)

- by Pauline Gallagher

This week's theme: Mosaics

A mosaic is art that is an assemblage of small pieces used to create a whole. Most often associated with tile or stone, a mosaic can be comprised of anything. Mosaics can be functional or decorative, representational or abstract. The week, Art of the Day brings you a small selection of the variety of mosaic pieces found in the EBSQ Galleries.

Art: Nautilus (Available) by Artist Pauline Gallagher
The inspiration for my Nautilus design was from a sliced nautilus shell borrowed from a friend.

The surface is covered with many shades of black, gold and white Sicis Iridium glass tiles. Two shades of sanded grout were used.

"Nautilus" was featured in the CD album "Mosaic Art 2005".
