This "Goddess of the Harvest" was inspired by a beautiful brooch I saw and could never forget. It was from the 1920's era of silver mastery in Mexico. These were the days of William Faulkner, Diego Rivera, Miguel Covarrubias and the "Silver Gringo" himself William Spratling. The image however is much older and goes back to the Mayan culture and by the grace of the goddess the crops would thrive and the people would flourish.
I chose encaustic for this piece because I wanted to show the glorious curves of the goddess. It is a wonderful medium for depth, texture and form.
