Step right up, folks, and get ready to see something that's Spooktacular! Some of you may recall the "Ghost in a Jar" ebay item from awhile back, that caused quite a stir. Well, I've got something to rival that --I've managed to capture the very essence of "Casper, the friendly ghost"... in a jar!(that's right, it's his ectoplasm!)
Ectoplasm, (the slimy, green, gelatinous, gooey substance pictured here in the jar) is the residue left by ghostly spirits. It can take many forms, but is often seen as a yellow-green hue or ooze around a ghosts body. It's the reason that ghosts can materialize (it's molded by spirits to assume physical shapes).
Usually, when ectoplasm is spotted, specialists in spirit divination and ghost tracking (aka ghost-busters!) are called in. However, I personally, decided against calling in the specialists, preferring instead, to simply eat the ghostly substance, as I was extremely hungry. Say Goodbye, Casper! Well, thanks for looking, and if I should become possessed by an "other-worldly" spirit due to my ingesting the green goo, don't you worry, it's just Casper, and he's "the friendlist ghost, you know"! I am entering this piece into the "Vessels" show, and it was specifically created for it. The "media" I chose to create my vessel is a plastic jar (as the support) because plastic is light and unbreakable and also easy to paint on with acrylic paint (which I what I used to paint the image of Casper, and the decoration on the top as well. I then filled it with lime flavored jello inside! I chose lime jello specifically because it resembles my idea of what "ectoplasm" would look like. Hope you enjoy this wacky piece!
