I have a house not too far from this old adobe structure and have stood in its welcome shade, running water from a deep well nearby to take home. The day I took this photo it had been raining and the usually brilliant desert colors were muted and dull. This is the cantina in Ruidosa, Texas. It functions as a social gathering spot in a community sparsely populated and the occasional far flung tourist. Lost near the end of Highway 170, the River Road of the Rio Grande, this tiny town borders Mexico and sits near Chinati Hot Springs and the Pinto Canyon road to Marfa. Big Bend National Park is not too far, but everything else is a million miles away....
