This wood sculpture was developed when a wonderful piece of cherry split, much like the way a mother gives birth to a child. It shows a young daughter, seperate from her mother but still very close to her mother, as evidenced by the 3 small brass rods connecting the pair.
The sculpture was carved by hand from cherry and carefully sanded. Brass rods were then inserted to stabalize the two pieces and to anchor it to the basswood base. It was then finished with several coats of tung oil and final cover of wax.
