The ~Ish Fish
The ~ish Fish started out it’s life as
Well-used vintage wooden tray. I thought it needed a fish on it and asked my smallest son what kind of fish he thought I should give it.
After careful thinking he said, “I know! A fighting fish!”
I said, “You mean a Beta fish?” He said, “yeah Mama that would look really cool”.
So, I faithfully got started, just as I was finishing up, painting a fighting fish from memory…he came running back up the studio stairs. His flat feet shaking the house to the basement level. He looks over my shoulder as I was putting the final dot on it and says, “Mama, did you look at the picture first?” I said, “no honey I painted this one from the picture in my head, what’s the matter don’t you like it?” He replies with such sincerity, “oh mom I love it, but it just doesn’t look like the one in my book. That’s OK though don’t feel bad he’s a good fish, he needs some fangs to make him look like a fighter fish though. See ya mom, I gotta go play basketball with my brother before he changes his mind!” And off he ran leaving me feeling a little sheepish, so I went to the bookshelf and pulled out the fish book. Sure enough, he is only Beta-is and not mean looking at all. I still really like him, and I think it would make a great wall hanging in a children’s bathroom or used as a springtime tray out back at the barbeque. Fun and vibrant, lots of fishy attitude. Sturdy built in handles give it balance and a natural frame.
